What Are the Different Types of Reversing Camera?

Having a hard time parking your vehicle because of its size? Want to avoid driveway accidents in your home? If you answer "yes" to both questions, then you should definitely consider buying a reversing camera for your car. This electronic device makes getting in and out of tight parking spaces a tad easier. What's more, it can prevent you from accidentally backing into your child when manoeuvring your car out of your driveway.

4 common types of reversing cameras
There are four common types of cameras used for rear view camera systems. They are surface, flush, licence, and side mount type cameras. Each type of camera has its own strengths and unique characteristics. When buying a camera system, you should consider the type of vehicle you have, as well as your specific needs and requirements to ensure that you'll make the right purchase.

1. Surface. A reversing camera kit that has surface mount type of camera is best suited for larger vehicles. It can be attached to any flat or near flat surface and is usually mounted high on the rear of a vehicle, aimed down at approximately 30 to 45 degrees. This mounting position enables the camera to provide the driver with a commanding view of the area behind the vehicle and excellent depth perception. If you have a 4WD, motorhome, or caravan, this type of camera is right for you.

2. Flush. This type of camera is usually mounted through a hole in the body of a vehicle and offers a view that is more or less directly level with the surface of the road. Although it doesn't provide the degree of depth perception offered by surface cameras, installing a flush camera is much cleaner and unobtrusive. Because of how it is designed, this type of camera is ideal for passenger vehicles, pick-up trucks, and SUVs.

3. Licence. As the name implies, this type of camera is attached to the existing mounting screws of licence plates. As a result, you don't have to create new holes in the exterior of your car if you want to install a reverse camera system with this type of camera.

4. Side. Side mount cameras are designed to enable users to see the area along the sides of their respective vehicles. They can also be placed on the roof, ceiling, or walls of a vehicle. This type of camera is somewhat like the surface mount type in sense that it is often placed in a swivel hub mount.
